Adopt-A-Street

CrewThe City of Auburn has established an Adopt-a-Street Program consistent with the State's Adopt-a-Highway Program. The program is a partnership between volunteers and the City of Auburn to create a better living environment by reducing street-side litter and improving general appearance throughout the City.

Participating groups agree to remove litter from an assigned section of street or right-of-way at least four times a year, over a minimum one year period. The City will provide volunteers with safety supplies such as gloves, vests, masks, bags and training. The City also provides pick up and disposal of full bags placed at a designated location along the assigned section of street. Additionally, after volunteers complete four clean-up activities within the first year, the City will install a recognition sign with your name on it to thank you for your efforts.

Residents and businesses are responsible for maintaining their own property, adjacent sidewalks, and street frontage.  If there is a particular street that you would like to adopt, you can submit an application.  Requested streets are reviewed for safety, need, and appropriateness for the program.  Not all streets can be approved for the program.  If the street you request is approved, you will be required to sign an Agreement, Waiver, and Hold Harmless form, and watch a safety training video to be able to participate in the program.

Participants are required to be at least 15 years of age and minors between the age of 15 and 17 are required to have parent or guardian permission and adult supervision during cleanup activities.  Participants must also coordinate cleanups with the City prior to the cleanup date and complete required paperwork for each cleanup activity, including an Activity Report and signing a Waiver and Hold Harmless on the date of the cleanup.  Participants also agree that they will follow all laws and regulations related to COVID-19 if required by a public health order or Governor’s Proclamation.

Auburn is a green city and we want to keep it that way. Adopting a street shows pride in the City and it's a great way to show that you and your organization care about the community that you live and work in. You can get involved in the Adopt-a-Street Program with your business, club, organization, school, or family and help care for Auburn.

If you want more information about the program,  to apply to adopt a street, or to submit required forms for your cleanup activity for your assigned street, please contact the Adopt-a-Street Coordinator at 253-804-3120 or email [email protected].

Not interested in a long term commitment of adopting a street but still want to help?  Contact the City for more information and to discuss locations for onetime cleanups.  Requested streets are reviewed for safety, need, and appropriateness.  Not all streets can be approved for the program. Participants are required to  sign a Waiver and Hold Harmless form, watch the Safety Training Video, and let the City know when you want to do a cleanup.  Once the City receives and reviews your request and completed documents, you will receive a small cleanup kit that includes bags, disposable gloves and masks.  Please contact the Adopt-a-Street Coordinator at 253-804-3120 or email [email protected].
